North of Italy, nowadays. The corpse of a young girl is found beside an alpine lake. Sanzio, a middle aged police officer, is in charge of investigation. He is nearby the end of his career, and has a heavy ill wife, not able to recognize him. In the apparently quite town, Sanzio, pursued by his family troubles, will find a problematic truth. Probably he finds more than he could expect.

When a young couple and a peeper are killed in the field with sadism, Inspector Amaldi and his partner Freese unsuccessfully follow the leads trying to track the criminal. When another woman is murdered, Amaldi and Freese realize that they are chasing a serial killer. Amaldi visits Professor Civita, trying to find the meaning of three leaves found in the crime scene. Amaldi, who battles with his violent temper, tries to put the clues together and to avoid the next murder of the unknown psychopath.

Mark’s friend Sara reads her letter, which he left behind in class, and discovers the school is run by the Mater Lacrimarum, and is killed for this knowledge. The house of Mater Suspiriorum has already been destroyed, and by the time Mark arrives in New York City, he is investigating his sister’s murder.

Legnani apparently was mentally disturbed. He was used to paint people close to die or in agony. These facts together with the strange atmosphere that surround this village near Ferrara, in the north of Italy, contribute to put Stefano in a nightmare reality. Soon reality will change into horror.

A long time ago there were two sisters, a red queen and a black queen. They grew up hating each other. Finally the black queen killed the red queen by stabbing her seven times. The red queen came back from the dead and killed six people then killed the black queen. This cycle repeats it self every 100 years. But its only a legend…right? Now in present time it would seem that the red queen is back and bodies are piling up left and right. This is a stylish if slightly confusing giallo but there are enough twists and turns along the way to keep your interest along with a VERY nude young Sybil Danning.
