Mind Game (2004)

The film follows Nishi, a loser who has a crush on his childhood girlfriend. After an encounter with the Japanese mafia, the film follows Nishi as he journeys to heaven and back, and ends up trapped in an even more unlikely place. Nishi (and some friends) attempt to break out of their trap, and discover what it truly means to be alive along the way. This is a mind-bending trip that uses some of the most innovative animation ever created.
Howl’s Moving Castle (Hauru no ugoku shiro) (2004)

A love story between an 18-year-old girl named Sofi, cursed by a witch into an old woman’s body, and a magician named Hauru. Under the curse, Sofi sets out to seek her fortune, which takes her to Hauru’s strange moving castle. In the castle, Sophie meets Hauru’s fire demon, named Karishifa. Seeing that she is under a curse, the demon makes a deal with Sophie–if she breaks the contract he is under with Hauru, then Karushifa will lift the curse that Sophie is under, and she will return to her 18-year-old shape.

Chihiro and her family are on their way to their new house in the suburbs when her father decides to take a shortcut along a lonely-looking dirt road. After getting out of the car and walking along a path for a while, they discover an open-air restaurant filled with food but with no workers or customers present. Mom and Dad don’t hesitate to sit down and dig in, but Chihiro senses danger and refuses. As night falls, she is terrified to see the area fill with faceless spirits, but when she runs to find her parents, she discovers that they have been turned into pigs. She is found by a mysterious boy named Haku, who promises to help her. He gets her a job working in a nearby building, which turns out to be a bathhouse for the thousands of Japan’s gods and spirits. Though the work is hard and the people strange, she does as well as she can. Her parents, however, are still waiting in the hotel’s stockyard…

Samurai Fiction (SF: Episode One) (1998)

Three centuries ago, a precious sword has been stolen by Kazamatsuri — the sword, which historic and symbolic value is priceless for the clan (Shogun Tokugawa donated it to clan 80 years before that, at the same time that he established them as the local rulers). Lord’s counselor’s young son Heishiro goes to retrieve the sword himself to protect the clan from the shame or possible demise. He is accompanied with two friends, Shintaro and Tadasuke, and followed by the ninjas of the clan. After Kazamatsuri wounds Heishiro and kills one of his friends, the young aristocrat still wants revenge more than sword itself, but meanwhile have to recover from his wounds, in the small forest house of a lonely samurai and his daughter. At the same time, Kamazatsuri stays in nearby town in the entertainment center run by Okatsu and falls into her. The older samurai tries to dissuade Heishiro from fighting with Kamazatsuri, but is himself gradually drawn into the conflict.

On their way up the mountain they meet Snufkin, a wise and lonely wanderer, who knows about the coming disaster: it’s a comet, that could hit wherever, even here! Now lead by Snufkin, the expedition arrives at the observatory and learn that the calculated time is in two days! The four have two days to hurry back to Moomindale to warn everyone and to escape into a cave near the sea – and to find the sweet owner of a golden anklet Moomin found in the mountains. More and more interesting characters join our adventurers: the inventor Snork, his sister Snork Maiden and the stamp collecting Hemulen. Not forgetting the giant octopus, the Snork eating plant and the lizard guarding a ravine full of amethysts…
