The Pledge (2001)

The night he retires as a Nevada sheriff, Jerry Black pledges to the mother of a murdered girl that he will find the killer. Jerry doesn’t believe the police arrested the right man; he discovers this is the third incident in the area in the recent past with victims young, blond, pretty, and small for their age. So he buys an old gas station in the mountains near the crimes in order to search for a tall man who drives a black station wagon, gives toy porcupines as gifts, and calls himself the wizard: clues from a drawing by the dead girl. Jerry’s solitary life gives way to friendship with a woman and her small, blond daughter. Has Jerry neglected something that may prove fatal?

When a serial killer indicates that his next target is the Miss United States beauty pageant, the F.B.I. decides that they must get an undercover agent as a participant in the contest. A search uncovers no suitable candidate other than a bumbling female agent. Reluctantly, her captain agrees to let her join the team working the case. The team is led by a womanizing agent who has an apparent reluctant attraction to Bullock’s character. She enters as Miss New Jersey, replacing a contestant who was discovered to have acted in a porno film. The pageant managers are immediately aghast about the agent appearing in the pageant, but arrange a top handler to come give her a quick makeover, with the expected outstanding results. Unfortunately, she still is bumbling. When the killer is suddenly caught, everything seems to be over, except the female agent tries to convince her boss that something is still not right. She has discovered that the pageant managers are being dismissed after 21 years for younger people, and Bergen’s character may not be as solid as she seems on the surface.
O Brother, Where Art Thou (2000)

In their race to reach the treasure before it’s flooded, they end up crashing a Ku Klux Klan lynch mob, help a sensitive Baby-Face Nelson rob three banks in two hours, and even have enough time to put out a best selling record as “The Soggy Bottom Boys.”

A widow discovers after her husband’s suicide that he has mortgaged everything they own and the banks are ready to foreclose. Faced with impending doom and little working knowledge except her ability to grow plants, she struggles to save her home. Enter her gardener, who is struggling to make a few marijuana plants grow in a hidden location and suggests that she use her green house to help grow the plants and sell them to make the money both need. He is wanting to get married, but needs capital. What he doesn’t know is that his girl friend is pregnant and thus fears that they will be busted for growing marijuana. While supposedly working, the whole village including the local constable is well aware of the endeavor and is hoping for their success. When the plants come in, Grace takes the crop to London and tries to sell it to a ruthless, but charming drug dealer. Everything busts loose from there.

Shaft looks hard for the witness, so Wade wants someone to kill her. He turns to a ghetto drug king, Peoples Hernandez, who’s willing to kill for money, use Wade as a route to rich drug customers, and shaft Shaft. Can Shaft find the witness, convince her to testify, and shepherd her through the hail of bullets that Peoples is sure to let fly?

With Calitri threatening to kill him and Kip, and the police GRAB unit breathing down his neck, Memphis reassembles his old crew and attempts to pull off the logistically impossible.

Neither side approves of their romance, so, obviously, kung fu action ensues, with a soundtrack by Aaliyah.

His cellmate and best friend, Nick is on the way out with Rudy, whom he constantly brags about the female penpal he’s constantly been writing to. But in an unlikely turn of events, Nick ends up out of the picture, and Rudy stupidly assumes Nick’s identity and ends up spending time with Ashley, Nick’s penpal after he’s released. But Ashley’s brutal sibling Gabriel and his crew of thugs knew Nick used to work for a casino. And now Rudy must keep his identity as Nick to save his life, but must reluctantly aid Gabriel and his thugs to rob the casino. But things aren’t what they appear to seem.

After doing a little research and speaking to the man he is convinced that he is innocent. He tries to investigate but because of his drinking and womanizing he is not very credible and he when he thinks that he’s onto something he hits a wall. Eventually both his personal and professional life are damaged. And the man whom he believes is innocent is getting closer to his date with the needle.
