Nobody Knows (Dare mo shiranai) (2004)

In Tokyo, the reckless single mother Keiko moves to a small apartment with her twelve years old son Akira Fukushima and hidden in the luggage, his siblings Kyoko, Shigeru and Yuki. The children have different fathers and do not have schooling, but they have a happy life with their mother. When Keiko finds a new boyfriend, she leaves the children alone, giving some money to Akira and assigning him to take care of his siblings. When the money finishes, Akira manages to find means to survive with the youngsters without power supply, gas or water at home, and with the landlord asking for the rental.

The film takes place during 4 days in the summer of 1948, as the ghost of her father visits Mitsue (Rie Miyama). He had somehow learned that she has fallen in love, and tries to convince her to start her new life. But Mitsue obstinately refuses his warm and humorous encouragements
Sekai no chushin de, ai o sakebu (2004)

In 1980s Kyushu, two teenagers fell in love, and exchanged their secrets and thoughts by way of sending tape recordings to each other. More than a decade later, the boy (now grown-up and bittered) rediscovers the last recording of his long-dead lover’s voice. Her words trigger a series of flashbacks illustrating the joyful beginning and tragic end of their relationship.

The Glamorous Life of Sachiko Hanai is a Pink Film (a Japanese softcore pornography genre). Sachiko Hanai (Emi Kuroda) is a call girl. One day she is caught up in a gunfight and is shot in the forehead. Instead of killing her, the bullet in her head gives her psychic powers. She also accidentally comes into possession of a cylinder containing George W. Bush’s finger, whose fingerprint is designed to launch a nuclear missile, and international spies are soon chasing her.

Christmas in Tokyo, Japan. Three homeless friends: a young girl, a transvestite, and a middle-aged bum. While foraging through some trash, they find an abandoned newborn. Hana, the transvestite with delusions of being a mother, convinces the others to keep it overnight. Minami, a member of the Azamawari crew, highly respects his Aniki (brother) Ozaki who has saved his life in the past. However, lately Ozaki’s eccentricities (like claiming that a Chihuahua hs sees is a ‘Yakuza attack dog’) have been making everyone wonder about his sanity. Chairman Azamawari is unsympathetic to Ozaki’s little outbursts and secretly orders Minami to take Ozaki to a disposal facility in the city of Nagoya. There, the fate of these two follows a twisted path filled with violence, mother’s milk, strange locals, and ultimately the disappearance of Ozaki’s corpse which Minami now desperately tries to recover.

Yoshimura shows us the struggle of life in a personal way, by changing the lives of the people he meets and the way life is looked at.

During Tokyo’s rainy season, Iguchi, a photographer Rinku has counseled by phone, sends her pictures he has taken through her skylight: she’s wearing a short skirt, masturbating. He offers her the negatives if she’ll follow his instructions. She’s humiliated and agrees. He tells her he’s only giving her license to express her inner desires. He sends her into the night to walk on the wild side. Then, she asks a favor of him, and soon her husband receives phone calls and photographs. Where will this triangle lead?

The film traces the growth and friendship of 2 very different high school ping pong players. “Peco” Hoshino is a brash, arrogant player, determined to turn “pro”. He taught his quiet, nerdy childhood friend, “Smile” Tsukimoto. “Smile” frustrates his coach and rivals who recognize his talent for the game since it is just a game to him. To teach him, his high school coach learns that coaching is more than just training the students to be good ping pong players. Ironically, as “Smile” begins to develop his game, “Peco” undergoes a severe crisis after his defeat by rival players. “Peco” is unable to play well until he rediscovers the original reasons why he plays ping pong.

A child’s red bag shows up in odd places and soon the child herself starts appearing. Yoshimi then discovers the origin of the ghost…

A movie studio is being torn down. TV interviewer Genya Tachibana has tracked down its most famous star, Chiyoko Fujiwara, who has been a recluse since she left acting some 30 years ago. Tachibana delivers a key to her, and it causes her to reflect on her career; as she’s telling the story, Tachibana and his long-suffering cameraman are drawn in. The key was given to her as a teenager by a painter and revolutionary that she helped to escape the police. She becomes an actress because it will make it possible to track him down, and she spends the next several decades acting out that search in various genres and eras.
